As our Glamping Pods have wheels and technically can be moved from one area to another, they can be officially be classed as a Caravan
The legal definition of a caravan is:
“Any structure designed or adapted for human habitation which is capable of being moved from one place to another (whether by being towed, or by being transported on a motor vehicle or trailer).” Section 29 (1) of the Caravan sites and Control of Development Act 1960
However, owners will need to have the correct camping and caravanning licences prior to this on your campsite and there may be restrictions on the number of Pods allowed on any one site. In any case we strongly urge clients to check with their local Planning Authority before buying a Pod.
If you are planning on using a Glamping Pod as an extra addition to your home, eg: a garden office or studio, then planning permission may not normally be required as the Pod will fall under the permitted development rights for the house, however certain conditions and restrictions may apply.
For example:
If the house is sited within a conservation area, National Park or Area of Outstanding National Beauty then the rights above will have been withdrawn and a planning application will need to be submitted.
If you are planning to use the Pod as a permanent dwelling, planning permission will be needed. For more information please contact us.
